Your paperwork should have given you a range of your service dates. You aren’t on indefinite jury duty until you get a case. You may not serve in one at all

The only dates that were on the paper were the dates I had to standby as a telephone juror. I called Thursday and they said I had to report Friday. No word of service dates. I was just told to leave early and come back Monday

I've never lived in Queens, but 2 other NYC counties, and there the clerks can't/won't dismiss you. If you get called into a court room, the judge will ask everyone if there is any reason you cannot serve. They might speak to you without all the prospective jurors, they might not. I've never seen anyone get asked for proof of hardship. You definitely have a hardship, it's just a matter of getting someone in power to listen. Good luck, I hope you don't have to show up at all.

When the judge asks, do they ask in random order or do they just choose who can speak. I remember the first time I went, they pulled names out of a bingo machine. I was literally the last name out of 120 and had to go in the next day just to state why I can’t serve
