First Time Watching: Season 2
So at least one person in the comments of my season 1 post asked for future updates as I continued watching the show for the first time and I said I probably would update at the end of each season. So here I am having just finished season 2 (at 4am last night).
I loved season 1 and I have to say season 2 was slightly better. It was overall more consistent in its writing. The jokes were funnier, episodes were conceptually stronger. It feels like they’re allowing themselves to have more fun with it after season 1’s more ridiculous episodes came out so strong.
It reminds me a bit of how Community was a great but fairly standard sitcom about community college attendees but then they did a paintball episode and the show became free to do whatever it wants.
And I’m thrilled that Psych is doing whatever it wants to do. It’s nice watching writers be so free to experiment and have fun and even more of a pleasure to have a cast so insanely talented that they can rise to whatever scenario they’re given.
The performances are great and I remain in love with these characters. And this season has more character moments than season 1 did. Everyone’s starting to get more and more fleshed out and relationships are starting to form. Sorry if this is weird but I gotta say but “really close talking” rides this line between one of the most romantic things I’ve seen on tv and also being legitimately kind of hot. But that’s just one example of great character beats this season hit.
Episode highlights. I mentioned in my previous post how much I love American Duos and the dinosaur episode which followed. To my surprise the dinosaur episode got a sort of sequel featuring a mummy, I loved that. The two episodes which heavily feature Gus’ family were big hits for me. Spanish soap opera was a lot of fun. Bounty hunters was legitimately tense at times and finally I really loved the old people’s home episode that was really good. I like it when Henry has a more active role in the plot rather than being the guy Shawn goes too for advice.
Finally, everyone’s comments in my last post were all legitimately lovely and welcoming so thank you so much for being really cool and nice.
Onto season 3.
