Vacuum Clamping Rough Cut Lumber

I primarily use my main workbench and a router sled setup to get a flat reference surface on rough cut lumber. This always involves some clamping headache trying to get the oddly shaped piece secure. The quick answer would be to add some t-track or dog holes to my bench, and some side-action clamps that are low profile. However, I recently did a table project with some veneer work and ran into vacuum presses for veneering, and vacuum clamps for workpiece holding.

Has anyone tried the vacuum clamps on rough cut lumber? I can picture a setup where there are 3x vacuum clamps with large weatherstripping around the edge to seal on the rough cut lumber. These would have a slight ability to swivel to deal with any cupping/warping/wane etc. Using these to attach the rough cut piece to the workbench and then making a light pass with my router sled I think you could get a really nice reference surface to perform the rest of the milling from.

I am willing to try this out, but it is a non starter if there is no way a vacuum clamp will work with the rough surface of rough-cut lumber. Anyone have a vacuum clamping setup they could try a piece of rough-cut on?

Thanks!
