I have ascended.
TLDR: I've left my long time senior level position at an MSP, and have joined the ranks of SysAdmin for a single private company. Got any advice?
There were a lot of reasons for deciding to leave the company I helped build for the past 15+ years, and leaving wasn't the original plan. About a year ago I found myself sipping a beer and job searching. I made a plan to get an offer and show, with evidence, how underpaid/underappreciated I was with an expectation for an equal counter offer. I liked where I worked, liked what I worked on, and I like the people I worked with. After months of resume editing, and even more months of interviews with multiple companies, it was obvious how out of touch I was regarding common compensation for an IT employee. I played it cool. Eventually I was given an offer from an amazing, modern, and forward thinking company significantly higher than my asking salary, and the good news didn't end there. The benefits were substantially more generous as well. And now, as an employee, it seems I keep learning about more perks that weren't even discussed during the hiring process. The decision was obvious. I didn't even let my old employer make a counter offer when I put in my notice.
So anyways, what's with all the meetings?!! Holy hell, how does anyone ever get any work done?! If you've made a similar change in the trajectory of your career please shoot me a tidbit of advice, a story, or a little bit of encouragement.
TIA
