A Cargo Hauler Called Me a Griefer! Here's What Really Happened.
Hey everyone,
I had an encounter in Pyro recently that left me wondering if I made the right call, so I thought I’d share and get your thoughts.
I was exploring Pyro and stopped by one of the more remote outposts. For those familiar with the area, this outpost isn’t very popular no obvious loot or good commodities for trading, but it does have a hidden terminal where you can buy illicit substances. If you know, you know.
As I was scoping it out to check for hostiles, another player flew in and looked like they were about to land. In Pyro, trust isn’t exactly in abundance, so I immediately assumed they might know about the terminal too. Worst case scenario, they could ambush me while I was loading "2m worth of the Goods TM . Not wanting to take any chances, I engaged them with my Railgun before they could land and shot them down.
Afterward, they sent a very angry message in global chat accusing me of being a griefer. They said they were just running a cargo hauling mission and had no idea why I attacked them since there was “nothing of value” at the outpost. They were furious and made it clear they thought I was just out to ruin their day.
My Reasoning:
1. It’s Pyro:
Let’s be honest, Pyro is not Stanton. It’s a lawless system where almost everyone is on edge, and survival often means shooting first. I wasn’t about to take the risk of letting them land and potentially ambush me.
The Outpost’s Reputation:
This isn’t the kind of outpost you casually stop at unless you know what’s there. Even if they were on a cargo mission, the timing and location made me assume they were there for the same reason I was. It’s Not Personal, Just Strategy:
I don’t go out of my way to ruin someone’s gameplay, but in Pyro, self-preservation and opportunism come first. If the roles were reversed, I doubt they’d have hesitated to take the shot.
That said, I do feel a bit bad if they really were just running a cargo mission and had no idea about the terminal. But in a system like Pyro, where lawlessness is the norm, I think my actions were justified.
At the end of the day, not every encounter in Pyro is about griefing. Some players might have a genuine reason or strategy for shooting you down, even if you don’t know what it is. Just because their intentions aren’t obvious doesn’t mean they’re random or malicious. Sure, some people kill for fun, but others make tactical decisions based on the risks and rewards of the situation.
