Looking to get into retro gaming

As the title suggests, I'm looking to get into this hobby. Inexpensively hopefully lol. I've played SNES games and they're meh I play and lose interest quickly I guess I'm used to the super graphics of today's modern games but I want something more fun I love single player games and I never owned an SNES as a kid I was a Sega Genesis kid. But I mostly played sonic and a few military games like LHX attack chopper and desert strike, jungle strike etc. I want to play some rpg games but I don't know any on the Sega. Also I want to try some arcade hack and slash side scrollers. Would you guys be able to suggest some good games. And an inexpensive platform? I hear the PI 5 is a good way to go is this the right decision?
