Someone took my Christmas tree?

I know, I know it’s mid January, but I put my Christmas tree on the curb just tonight for pickup.

Within an hour, I look out and see two people shoving the tree into the back of their hatchback. Is there something I’m missing? Why would somebody do that in Wake County? I’m not aware of any ways to make money from old trees.
