Trademark Question: Can you reference a company in the title or subtitle of a book?
I recently published an insect recipe cookbook on Amazon. I was inspired to write it after learning that the World Economic Forum was recommending that humans stop eating protein from animals in favor of protein from insects. The subtitle of the book reads simply, "Insect Recipes Inspired by the World Economic Forum". One month later the WEF contacted Amazon and told them my book violated their trademark on the phrase "World Economic Forum". As a result, Amazon removed my book AND terminated my account removing dozens of other cookbooks and other books I have written over the years. I explained that I didn't feel that my use of their mark infringed but that I would happily change the title and republish. They said I would have to sue the WEF to prove I didn't infringe. Until then my entire business is kaput. Any ideas?
