My list of the disappointing Tamil movies this year
- Ayalaan: This movie was delayed for many years due to the VFX work. When it finally released, it felt underwhelming and outdated. You could say that’s because it was written in 2016, but I don’t think even then this would work. This will work great with kids though.
9.Caption Miller: I’ll say this right now, CM is so much better than Ayalaan. But the reason it is in 9 is because while in Ayalaan, kids will like it, for this movie, in my opinion, nobody will like this. After the scene with Dhanush and the fire, it went downhill fast. It did get me exited for CM 2 (if it happens) so…..
8.Singapore Saloon: I don’t know how people were hyped for this, or how I was hyped for this. I think it was because of the Loki cameo. I expected this to be a movie about achieving your dreams, but instead it was a cringe compilation with a shoddy screenplay. Cameos were cool though.
7.Rathnam: This was hyped because of the Vishal and Hari combo returning. This movie reached nobody’s expectations. In the entire movie, only one fight looked cool. How the mighty have fallen
6.Star: I remember being so hyped for this movie, the trailer looked so promising. Yuvan, Kavin, and the inspirational story were where the expectations were at. While Yuvan and Kavin succeeded, the direction, screenplay, and story failed spectacularly. Now I have trust issues with trailers.
5.Joshua: This was GVMs movie after VTK. Even though this had low expectations, it is 5th because it is sad how different this feels from GVMs other films. Nothing here worked. This was a project just for money and it shows. Even if GVM didn’t care enough for this movie, it’s still in your filmography man, take some effort, not whatever this is.
4.Brother: A very outdated family drama with bad production, poor screenplay, poor acting, and poor music and cinematography. The movie is so bad that you can’t even watch the behind the scenes in the end credits. I don’t know what these people were thinking.

2.Kanguva: This movie had huge expectations. For Suriya, and the concept that the movie could have. Unfortunately, Siva ruined everything, gave us cringe scenes in the beginning, poor screenplay, and an outdated story. That too the screaming. I feel bad for Suriya but I feel nothing for the people who also contributed. Okay maybe just the costume designer, the person who made the sets, and the cinematographer. This would be the worst movie this year if it wasn’t for number 1.
- Indian 2: After the trailer, the hype was pretty low, but the promotions didn’t stop. We got Siddarth saying that this will be the movie of the decade and all that stuff. At first we were like, okay no one will speak so highly of a movie like this, so we saw it. And Oh My God, this movie was absolute trash. What was Shanker thinking. The things in this movie was straight out of a spoof. This movie felt like Tamil Padam 3. But even Tamil Padam 3 would be good. And they teased an Indian 3. Shanker failed big time here, and I have no idea why Kamal didn’t try to intervene in the script. He should have seen this from a mile away.
