KDE Plasma 6 for frequent travelers

I travel for work and I thought about buying a Chromebook for media consumption and light work. But I'm a bit of a tinkerer and started wondering about installing Linux...with KDE 6...on a small 2-in-1 laptop instead. I'm curious if anyone else has (1) done this successfully and (2) think this is a better choice than just buying a Chromebook.
