U.S.S. Orleck. The city ruled that the New Year’s Eve concert / dance party / light show on the U.S.S. Orleck / Jax Naval Museum was in violation of the noise ordinance. Events in previous weeks were even louder than the New Year’s Eve event. On December 27 and 28, the amplified music reportedly rattled neighbors’ windows across the river. The Jax Environmental Quality Division is reviewing the December 31 decibel meter readings. “At this time, I cannot guarantee that a reoccurrence won’t happen,” the city’s enviornmental specialist told me on January 8. “Please feel free to ask for an update in about a month.”
