Throwback to when 343 "leaked" a fake Halo 5 script page of Master Chief's death in a trailer for The Sprint
This is one of the most fascinating tidbits of Halo development lore. Before the launch of Halo 5, 343 had a mini series called "The Sprint" where they detail the development of Halo 5. In the initial trailer around 17 seconds, a short clip appears with a developer flipping through this script page: https://youtu.be/JUx6VKiOOMc?si=joNdSvelQzoM6ql_
A couple of keen eyed fans zoomed in on the script and was able to make out what was to be an absolutely massive "spoiler" for the game. Here is what the script read:
LOCKE No... please...
And as Locke turns to look around him, the slow reveal of Infinity, BROKEN, its three mile-long hull shattered. The wreckage is spread across a half-dozen miles of fiery landscape.
But then he sees it - the thing he dreaded most... The MASTER CHIEF, face down in the snow. He's missing a gauntlet and one leg is turned at an impossible angle. Locke walks to Chief's side, falls to his knees, already knows what he's going to see.
LOCKE (cont'd) Chief!
No reaction. Locke rolls Chief over with a GROAN OF EXERTION as he shoves Chief's TONS OF DEAD WEIGHT onto its back.
The Chief's helmet is CRUMPLED in from FRONTAL IMPACT. His chest armor is ripped open from the Warden's attacks (Cinematic 016 Final Battle), bloody.
We can't leave any doubt that the big guy is dead, but aim for a PG-13 style, yeah? This is about the shock that there's nothing Locke can do, NOT the gore.
LOCKE (cont'd) Locke to Osiris. He's... He's dead. The Warden...
Of course, this scene and Chief's death never happened in the game, but it begs the question of this just being a discarded script, or did 343 intentionally put this in to mess with fans?
