Dead and Company future….
I’m watching the wolf bros from last night, and I got to thinking about something.
How would people feel if dead and company just kept going, replacing members as needed? Obviously there are tons of great cover acts (JRAD, DSO and all the local bands) but a continuation of d&c is a direct line back to the original band due to having original members. I think part of the reason Bobby picked Mayer was to have the music reach new people and I think that’s been accomplished very well.
I know there are people who don’t like d&c and that’s fine. For those who do enjoy d&c, who would you want to see slide into spots?
I think part of this is that I don’t want John, Jeff, Oteil and Jay to stop playing together / stop playing this music together. It’s been too fun listening to them play. I remember Bobby saying he had a dream that he was watching himself play from the drum riser, and then he realized it wasn’t him. It was John but at Bobby’s age with white hair. Bobby said he didn’t recognize the other guitar player in the dream.
I also understand if people don’t dig this idea. We all have a lot of emotions and such tied up with this music so we can feel strongly about it.
I hope everyone out there is doing well today! Happy New Year to you all, and happy listening. 12/31/1978 ❤️
