Just wondering, did anyone get what any of the favorites of Dora with English lyrics were trying to say in them?
Yeah, I'm talking about Lelek, Marko Bosnjak and Magazin. Why the hell am I even paying attention to the lyrics here? Well, there're 3 big reasons. All these songs were officially presented not with just audio or music videos but with precisely lyric videos, where the text is constantly on the screen, big, clear and with some animations. All those songs are dramatic, not some fast dance tracks, so the attention to the lyrics is automatically higher. And, of course, they all are among the favorites. There's not one big favorite at Dora like last year, so there're multiple of them, and these ones are in the top 5 confidentally almost everywhere. I found it really fascinating that not 1, not 2 but whole 3 songs that have those strange English lyrical choices actually happened to be among the favorites here at the same time, that's what inspired me to write this.
The saddest case here is Lelek, as I can see. Judging by the picture, they're some kind of a folk group that decided to sing in English for some reason, it had to be dramatic... and we got this. It was already compared to Iru in the sub. A random set of loud overdramatic phrases. We could say it's AI generated... but I guess, AI is good enough to at least make less grammatical errors. Or is there something really deep actually? Were they also not allowed to write about something straightforwardly, just like Iru? Or were they sure they could succeed only with an English song and wrote it by themselves, not hiring anyone who actually knows English better? And they're still a favorite among hardcore part of eurofans. It's very easy to please them with folk, as I can see, especially this year. Basically, almost the only non-fan favorite folk song at NFs this year is that Estonian one)
Magazin are the favorites according to the number of views and their fame, as I understood. But it's also overdramatic song with English lyrics here. Already better with grammar and overall feel but still unclear what it's about here, especially the chorus "I don't wanna baby to leave the love behind". What's that? A childfree anthem? A reference to some cinematic kind of story?
Marko Bosnjak's lyrics seem like the most okay-ish here but it's still a set of some loud/provocative phrases. Another cinematic kind of story, a sweet revenge and stuff? Trying to be Mileo from MGP last year kind of fun & creepy?
