What do you wish Veilguard had included?
In a perfect world what were your dreams for the 4th installment?
My disappointment/grief needs to heal through creativity, so I'd love to hear some more headcanons.
I'm mainly thinking along the lines of story/character direction/decisions, but gameplay ideas welcome too.
I would have loved a game where you could either play as Rook or the returning Inquisitor, with the non-player character taking a commander/advisor role.
I like the idea of Rook and Inqy being ideological rivals: in my mind I had a rough hardboiled detective style Rook who sees Solas as a threat to be eliminated, and a compassionate idealist Inqy who still holds hope that Solas can be talked down from the ledge.
You could choose to have the two leads work together and pool their resources, or against each other in rival parties (making companions choose sides would be exciting) to hunt down Solas and bring him to justice.
I really, really dig the Heart of Darkness inspired story threads in the Veilguard artbook, and think it would be cool to watch Solas decend slowly into madness/wolf like nature the closer he gets to his goal and the further he gets from his original values/wisdom spirit nature.
I'd also love a return to darker themes. Solas messing with Rook/Inqy through dreams to try and get them disillusioned about the futility of their efforts to save Thedas/the moral ambiguity of their side in the war/people they weren't able to save.
I'd have liked to see Solas go full pride demon in the bad endings, and need to be killed by a wrathful/corrupted Rook, or a heartbroken Inquisitor (my edgy little heart yearns for a tragic Wolverine kills Dark Phoenix-esque scene).
For the good endings, I actually wanted to see Solas succeed in sundering the veil, then realize it's a hollow victory and regret his choice because of the destruction it causes. Dude needs to have a humbling realization that the rose-tinted past wasn't worth blowing up the present. Perhaps to contrast the Regrets mural sequence, we get a series of murals of his time with the Inquisition: his best memories. Then he can approach a patient Rook or friendly/romanced Inqy and actually ask for help/admit fault and they can help him repair it.
