Caller ID Spoofing

Dads, just had a scare that hit me on an emotional level. Some scammed used my wife's phone number and called me. The caller was threatening her life and my son's. I could hear them both crying in the background.

I got ahold of my wits and realized I could just look on the baby monitor and see they were fine, which, spoiler, they were safe and sound.

I'm someone who has been online and ahead in tech since the late 80s and early 90s. I've seen and heard almost everything. However, in that moment between verification and first hearing that caller, I don't know what I would have done or paid for.

Fuck, this was awful. Exact emotional button to press and override my brain.
