Why these days intelligence isnt valued anymore?

For really long time if you were smart you had really good time you could just get faang job and get cs degree and just by being smart you could earn much money but now it seems like intelligence isnt valued anymore. What happend that market decided that being smart has no value at this point with these layoffs and hiring freezes?
