Thoughts on gap semester to pay for college
Hi all!
I’ve been in a predicament the past year or so after transferring from a community college. I realized my family doesn’t have the money to cover the remaining tuition costs after aid and was unfortunately “forced” to take a gap semester to work back in Fall 2023. I was able to pay off the rest of my tuition ($4000) and took classes in Spring 2024 while working but I once again came across the issue of paying tuition once the semester ended.
I tried finding a private loan to pay for the remaining total of $3000 but the interest rate was outrageous (%18) so I decided not to go through with that.
It’s come to the point where I have seen my friends in high school graduate and am now about to see my underclassmen that I met in college graduate before me as well as my girlfriend who is a year younger.
I just want some reassurance that what I’m doing is right and I shouldn’t be taking that private loan option. If I were somehow able to pay off tuition I would only be able to take 1-2 courses because of how close it is to semester starting. My parents credit is also shot because of poor financial decisions made as I started my college career.
Would appreciate some feedback on this or some ideas that can work for me thanks
