Cali fires

So I'm new to the wildland side of the fire service and I've only been called to firefight once at the end of the fire season since I was in the last training sessions they had. I work for a contractor, not forestry service/gov. I've been hearing a lot about the gov stop caring about wildland firefighters and etc. but why haven't they called us all out there? As it seems the fires get worse and spread more everyday. I'm sure that's some naive thinking, but how much more of the country has to burn?
