Walmart water shoes/reef walkers vs. fishing tabis
Aloha. I just arrived on the Big Island from Alaska and will be here for 3 months. Sorry if this is a silly question, but I am ignorant on the difference uses of water shoes, reef walkers, tabis, etc here. I did some googling and was finding a variety of responses so thought I'd ask the natives and locals.
I'm going out on a hike tomorrow with a lot of slippery rocks and want to be prepared - I already purchased a pair of the cheap walmart slip on water shoes/reef walkers but am wondering for what activities you use these for, and for what exactly you use tabis for (thinking about picking up a pair of tabis before the hike tomorrow if need be).
Is it the case that cheap water shoes are more for just not getting your feet banged up in casual swimming, and tabis are better for gripping and protecting against wet and sharp rock?
I have some solid hiking boots but want to wear something that is going to be water proof (no dryer or heat source at my place so no way to dry stuff except the sun, boots take forever) and also have a really solid grip on wet and algae covered rock.
Are tabis what I am looking for? Anywhere good in HIlo to buy? The Hawaiian Angler brand looks cool, maybe I'll look like a real local haha. Thanks in advance.
