High winds threaten Fat Tuesday parades in Orleans Parish
NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans officials are set to decide on Mardi Gras Day plans as severe weather threatens.
With high winds expected on Fat Tuesday, officials are evaluating potential changes and plan to announce a decision Monday. Jefferson Parish has already canceled its celebrations due to the forecasted conditions.
Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng confirmed in a press conference Monday that the parades will remain canceled for Mardi Gras Day as wind gusts pose a problem for double-decker floats, tents, ladders, and grandstands.
Orleans Parish leaders are expected to decide sometime today on whether or not krewes will roll on Fat Tuesday or be cancelled.
