Advice Needed - How to Fire Nanny?

Hi all,

MB looking for advice here. This is our first nanny, so not sure how to handle it.

Nanny has been with us for 3 months and frankly is unreliable to the point it's impacting my job. She is 10-15 minutes late at a minimum every day and often leaves early, plus has taken 70 hours PTO out of 120 for the year (more than she's accrued at this point - she just sends texts she's not coming in and we'll see her tomorrow).

We have tried to address her tardiness and frequent same-day callouts in the past, and she's been rude and dismissive of our concerns. Because of this, we are looking for a new nanny but it's been difficult to find someone so we've kept her on while we're looking. I think we're close to finding someone else (through an agency this time) so we wanted to let her go once we have another lined up.

Two questions:

1) what do we owe her in terms of severance? I'm hesitant to give any more than a week given her short tenure and general performance but want to know what market is. Her rate is $25/hour.

2) any advice on how best to handle the actual conversation? She's pretty aggressive and confrontational so I don't think it'll go well, but we do want to be firm but fair.

Thanks in advance!
