Jonathan Smith just secured a program win and flipped the outlook on the season

Homecoming. 3-3. Under the lights. Fresh off a bye vs Iowa that just scored 40 points and their defense guided by one of the best DCs in the game. So naturally, we tear that defense apart and hang 32 on them to win by 12. All while we had a couple of blue chip prospects in town watching.

This goes to show that the team has been making strides all season and that the two weeks of progress was put to good use. That offensive line looked good vs a good defense. We averaged 5.3 YPC on the ground and hung 468 total yards on what’s probably the best or second best defense we’ll see for the remainder of the year. At 4-3 we have a real shot to go bowling and do even more. Outside of Indiana, there isn’t really a game left that isn’t winnable. Michigan is sitting at 4-3 and is in a similar position to Iowa. Illinois is decent being on the road makes it hard. But considering our own progress, I can’t say that we can’t win. Purdue is on its way to a coaching search and comes to us. Rutgers is suddenly collapsing before our eyes and also comes to us. 8-4 is suddenly a possibility.
