Any jurisprudence on admissibility of video or audio recording?

Is there any case involving the issue of admissbility of an audio and video recording as evidence against the defendant or accused?

I am wondering if it is legally acceptable to use as evidence such recordings to prove someone's misdeeds or crime, if the recording was done secretly and not in a public place, and by a private individual.
