Sort of complicated question
My young adult son didn’t work in 2024 at all due to a medical condition.
Last year, someone filed a fraudulent tax return (2023 tax year) using his SSN. IRS sent a notice, he responded, went to IRS office to provide documentation and clear things up.
IRS investigated and sent outcome letter stating that it was found to be fraud and son was not responsible. His real return was processed and refund issued.
I’m considering claiming him this year since he hasn’t worked at all in 2024 while being sick. If I do claim him, will that situation last year cause a delay or audit?
Additional info: He’s 23. I claimed him every year until he was 20. Then he earned enough to file his own for a few years, then he got sick. He lives with me.
