So about that prophecy… [SPOILERS]

Here’s my first impression thoughts on the Giants’ Prophecy after just beating the game last night:

Kratos was actually the Ty’r of the prophecy the whole time. The God of War that leads an army to Odin’s doorstep. Unless I remember incorrectly, pretty much everything in the hidden prophecy came to fruition until that, but maybe it was intended within the prophecy all along.

The only reason Kratos didn’t die was because Loki went against his nature and chose to destroy the mask instead of joining Odin. However, in that moment you can see a brief struggle within Atreus. Because as the Norns said, people are predictable and fate is more about the nature of a person than the future.

Part of Loki wanted to believe that despite all the awful things Odin had done, he really could change like his own father did. Loki saw a lot of Kratos’ past in Odin. His nature is sympathetic. But to defy the prophecy, he had to resist his nature.

He knew from Odin’s own words that he was too far gone. And he knew if he followed his nature, it’d result in fulfilling the prophecy to his father’s death. The choice to forge his own destiny was always within him, rendering the mask useless either way. Remember after Kratos kills Heimdall, Atreus says ”You did it because it was necessary. Not because it was prophesied.” That seemed stupid to me at first but upon finishing the game it made sense.
