"Operation Anchorage" is abysmal

First time player of FO3 here, what the actual hell is this? It seems to be pretty fairly praised amongst fans and I just really want to know what's so enjoyable about this. Halfway through a blind playthrough I'm pulled into a simulation of Halo in communist china but with VATS and an extremely unclear objective, but maybe I'm stupid. The combat is no doubt the clunkiest thing in this game as much as I'm loving it, so having a DLC so focal around the least enjoyable thing is just infuriating. Why can't I leave, seriously, why is it IMPOSSIBLE to leave. I am forced to play basically an entirely different 3+ hour long game that I'm really not enjoying, just for the sake of it?? Troublesome combat, picking up every tiny little frag grenade and mine is annoying as hell, companions that either die immediately or just do not follow/ lead to where you're supposed to go, linear gameplay, unclear objectives, unclear waypoints. What is genuinely so enjoyable about this. I am encouraged to just drop the game for a while now, this is awful.
