Why is Heroin extremely difficult to find in the US unlike the rest of the world?

I’m not from the US but always wondered why Heroin is pretty much non existent there.

It’s not like Heroin production stopped, it’s still very popular in a lot of countries. It’s also extremely easy to synthesize. What makes it very difficult to find?
