New associates expectations

We have a new associate that joined in July with us and we just got his notice yesterday. Apparently it's because his schedule isn't busy enough/high producing. I work in the front desk and when the practice owners signed him on, I asked them to communicate clearly that there shouldn't be any expectations of being busy all the time, especially since it was right in the middle of the summer.

I'm just not sure what new grads/new associates are thinking because it obviously takes time to build rapport and trust with patients. Even the practice owners were telling their patients that they've seen for years to see the new associate because they want to slowly cut down their hours.
