Ideas for PC Death

Hi everyone, unfortunately the player's barbarian has to leave the group because of personal obligations. They have given me full permission to do what I want with their character and this is right before the Feast of St. Andral where they will be meeting Strahd for the first time. I want it to be a full showcase of Strahd's capabilities and how threatening he is... What are some good ideas for this?
