New 10 gallon

I picked up this 10 gallon rimless yesterday and the shop owner recommended I keep this foam pad underneath to avoid any failures. Said it would help keep the tank level. What do you guys think? Should I keep the foam, get rid of it, or is there something else I can keep under the tank that doesn’t look so horrible?
