What's everyone's problem with yt shorts specifically?

I always kinda wanted to know both how and why people get so addicted to yt shorts. Whenever I'm on YouTube, I just watch one short then go back to the next vid. I don't think I've ever really scrolled to the next one for over a year. It's not even like my non-short recommended vids are less than 10 minutes, I mainly watch YouTube essays or educational vids.

I don't mean go come off as superior, cause I watch ig reels which are a billion times more addictive imo. I say this because ig is literally designed for reels. They only play a vid twice so it pressures you to click on it. Next thing you know, you've been on reels for half an hour.
