Do you consider your 80s road bike versatile?

I think we all agree 90s MTBs are a marvel of useful bike design - wide tire clearance, durable components and frames, multiple mounting points, comfortable geometry and unique designs, all for a cheap price. Yada yada yada

What about the 80s road bikes? They’re not great ATBs, but do you still use and abuse them?

They’re obviously designed for racing, and most of them won’t accept anything fatter than 30c. But, when set up with the right handlebars and components, I really like these bikes

I’ve built a couple 90s bikes from the frame up, but I keep coming back to my 80s Fuji that can’t even take more than 38c. I think I just prefer the geometry and 700c wheels.

The Fuji is certainly not as versatile, but I don’t enjoy my Stumpjumper for much longer than a simple commute.

How do you feel?
