wanting to start writing a Nonfiction book
I’m planning to write a non-fiction book on the debate surrounding Australia Day (Australia's National day).
Obviously, this is a very sensitive topic for many so I'm Hoping to explore both sides of the conversation with care and depth, incorporating perspectives from professors, doctors, activists, and Aboriginal elders. I want to ensure the book provides a fair and balanced representation of the debate, helping readers gain a deeper understanding of the issue.
This Would be my first go at writing a book outside of School for English, so I’d love some advice on:
Creating an Outline:
Should I start by writing down all the arguments for and against the issue first?
How do I structure the book when I plan to include interviews from such a diverse group of people?
Conducting Interviews:
What’s the best way to reach out to these experts and elders?
Should I prepare the outline before conducting interviews, or should the interviews shape the outline?
Research and Balance:
How do I ensure I’m not subconsciously leaning toward one side of the argument?
Are there any tools or methods that can help me keep my research organized and unbiased?
General Writing Tips:
Any advice for a first-time non-fiction writer tackling a nuanced topic like this?
How can I make the book engaging and accessible while still being informative?
Publishing and Distribution:
If I decide to self-publish, what’s that process like? Are there tools or platforms you’d recommend?
How does one go about getting their book into bookshops once it’s complete?
Are there major differences between self-publishing and traditional publishing I should consider?
I’m really excited (and a bit nervous) about this project, and I want to approach it thoughtfully and respectfully. If you have any advice, tips, programs, or videos on writing, please share them I’d greatly appreciate the help!
