Is DPS Brann the same level as healer Brann?

My main is a shadow priest and doesn't fare very well in solo delves. I have a DK alt who does much better. When my DK gets Brann a level, the game says he leveled up his healing journal. And that made me wonder... Am I wasting my time trying to level Brann with a DK to help my priest?
