Question about possible fault? Or just bad wine? (Please excuse the glass being used…)
Browne Family Vineyards Forest Project Pinot Noir 2022 (I broke my last clean wine glass tonight… so I forgive me, this beer glass was the closest thing I had)
In my experience with Pinot Noir at any price range, and especially in the $20 price range like this bottle, the wine tends to be translucent and a vibrant color. It tends to also be fruit forward and “bright” or “zippy” on the palate, not having much time to mellow or develop tertiary flavors.
This juice came out almost brown, like you would expect an old wine past its prime. The wine has only been in a bottle for a year at this point. On the nose, very little fruit, but no vinegar. Kinda smelled bretty, but not enough to make me think I was chewing on a bandaid, and no more than other screw-cap wines that just needed to breathe a bit. The palate was a bit tart with some tannic structure, but flabby as all heck, no acid, and no fruit flavors to pick out. Just booze and light tannins with a lingering bitterness.
Does this sound like a fault? - or did Browne Family just miss the mark with their Forest Project Pinot Noir? I’ve had their Heritage Pinot Noir and wasn’t offended, so I figured this one couldn’t hurt.
