We all need to stop buying cars…

Been shopping around for cars and the prices are freaking insane. Have people just resigned themselves to paying insane prices? It seems like it’s exponentially more economical to just fix the cars you have rather than shop for a newer car. Here’s my two recent experiences:

Been driving a Prius I bought at 80k miles for $5500, 7 years old. It’s now at 320k miles and the battery is weak. I was going to go out and just buy another cheap Toyota hybrid (Corolla), and take drive it up to like 300k miles again. Yo… Corolla hybrids with like 80-100k miles are like $14k! Screw that, Im just replacing the battery in my Prius.

I have an old Honda Pilot that I bought for $10k lightly used, and an old ‘96 RAM 2500 4WD for towing and hauling that I bought for $1200 a decade ago. I was looking to consolidate these cars and just buy a lightly used F150 or F250. Clapped out F150s are like $20k and lightly used is like 30 freaking k!

It seems like it’s at the point where it’s just better to fix the cars you have than buy a new one. Even engine replacements are like 100% economically worth it over buying a used car.
