Vampires Are Not Real.
I hate to be the one to break it to you, but it's true. Trust me, I googled it.
Someone in the comments of a now removed video told me that I was spreading negativity, by saying quite factually that vampires are not real. Implying that, by not playing along with their fantasy, that I was somehow doing harm to their chosen "lifestyle".
And, there is a sizeable amount of people in this sub that are deep into their roleplay of being a vampire.
And to that I say: Great. Do your thing. LARPing is fun for the whole family, I say. But don't, for a minute, think it's anything other than scratching your itch for fantasy and escapism.
This commenter went on to say that punk, goth, emo, etc are similar lifestyles, and my denying vampirism is real is the same as telling these people they're wrong too. As someone who grew up Punk, I got a pretty good chuckle out of it. Because of how truly insulting it is, for the comparison.
Goth developed from various youth subcultures, including punk, and evolved from these underground origins. The Goth subculture of the 1980s drew inspiration from a variety of sources. Some of them were modern or contemporary, others were centuries-old or ancient. But they came from historical influences that shaped into something new and complex.
Vampires are fictional monsters, with modern versions so bastardized they're hardly recognizable to their original interpretations and mythological sources. Vampires were never a culture. There is no group or civilization you can draw from with vampires, because they are things of legend. And in all their original forms, they were not the pretty, haughty, alluring figures who hold lavish balls in stone castles in the recesses of the night.
If you want to play pretend with a group of like minded people, I will be the first to encourage you. I will also be the first to tell you not to be taken advantage of by people living a power trip, pretending to be something they are not. If you crave community, you don't have to give something to Vampire Steve holding a microphone telling you he's for sure a vampire, 'trust me, bro'.
But nobody is obligated to play in your fantasy. Telling someone vampires are not real, shouldn't shake your so called 'lifestyle' if you're so confident in living it. Vampire literature, media, whatever -- is an adult genre full of horrors and complex allegory, and predatory people. If you can't handle being told it's not real, you're not mature enough to be making believe in that realm.
Okay, I'm done now. Sorry for the long winded blah, blah, blah. Go back to your pick me pics and "Who would win in a fight" low effort posts now.
