Mod to change enemy mesh?

My wife has a phobia about ticks from working with wild animals. Anyone know a mod that I could use to swap out her tick meshes with something (anything) else?

I'm comfortable coding and making 3d models, so even advice on where to start building my own mod would be greatly appreciated.
