The Simpsons is good again

Recently someone somwhere mentioned that the Treehouse of Horror episode of the latest season (34) of The Simpsons was actually funny. Intrigued, I gave it a go and to my absolute delight, found it was hilarious, a proper banger of a Simpsons episode.

As a result my wife and I have been giving other episodes of the season a watch and you know what? Every one made us laugh out loud, multiple times, as well as staying true to the characters and writing timely, smart satires of modern life. I've genuinely been enjoying watching them as much as I was all those years ago when we all agree it was good.

I just think it's a shame that the narrative that the Simpsons became a sad, hollow husk of its former self has perpetuated, even though the quality has seemingly returned and no one seems to have noticed. For all I know this is a very recent development due to an entirely new writing team, but I'm definitely going to be going back through the older seasons to see what I might have missed in the intervening years just because I believed the online consensus.
