Someone who has a hobby or two that they're extremely devoted to is way more admirable than someone who works a prestigious, six figure job.

Don't get me wrong, having a job is important. It's our source of income, it gives you a purpose in life and it keeps society going.

However, having a hobby is much more admirable and even attractive than having a high paying job that you worked hard for. Having a hobby shows that you're self-motivated based off the pure enjoyment of the activity, and not motivated because you earn money from it.

It's strange how we typically ask what someone does for a living, rather than what someone does just for pure enjoyment, upon meeting them.

Jobs really exist just to keep society and the economy going. I'm not anti-work by any means but what someone's hobbies are tells me a lot more about them rather than what they work as.
