Time to upgrade my server or..?
About 5 years ago, I built my first unRAID server with an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 on an ASRock Rack X470D4U main board with 32GB ECC RAM in a Fractal Design Define R5 case. Closing in on 3 years ago, I upgraded to (5) 16TB WD Gold Drives from a bunch of 10TB Seagates.
Seeing that it was a little dated when I built it together, I'm toying with the idea of switching things up. I don't run VMs but use it for serving Plex locally, have dabbled in Immich but haven't fully set that up just yet, and use it as storage and mini-DLNA audio playback locally. No real transcoding going on; everything is generally direct play.
Seeing that my use is rather minimal, and the case is rather overkill (nevermind I couldn't get the case fans to actually do anything except run at a fixed speed), I'm thinking of rebuilding. Originally thought about the Node 804 as I will eventually add more drives but have since read about cases like the Jonsbo N3 which would be a better use of my space where the server lives. Realize I can go with a CWWK Q670 board and whatever processor (maybe i5-13500t) but then also see the N150 that's just been released as well and could likely serve me well. I'm looking to find something that will be more energy efficient and run cooler than what I currently own. Also looking at the fact that I picked up the ASRock board used (at 6 months) and it's been almost 5 years.
I guess what I'm getting at -- should I be looking at updating the current system or just leave it as is?
Thanks all!
