Would anyone be interested in an unOrdinary TCG?
Technical Spoilers for anyone not yet past Ep50 & some series wide character/group names, they're hidden and you've been warned. Furthermore if the spoiler blocks/hidden text failed to work please comment that asap so I can spoiler mode the whole post
I can see three possibilities for how it could be done.
Either 1. each person starts the game a low or mid tier, they choose their stats & ability, use the filter to create the image for their character card, and craft a small deck of cards with ways their ability can be used. They also can choose whether to affiliate their character with certain things >! Like Specter, Ember, or any known school !< and then use what benefits >! (safe house member, ability dampener, ability remover, amps, etc) !< come from it. Some >! like Jon's !< abilities might have to be off limits or decreased from it's canon capabilities in certain playstyles. Then the two or more opponents activate their abilities, level up, & fight till someone wins.
Same concept, but instead decks are premade for everyone except aforementioned spoiler who would have only a limited number of attacks needed, being >! the duplicates of his opponents and cards detailing how to derive attacks created by combining multiple aura abilities. !<
Either 1 or 2 but instead of one character you choose a full set of Royals, King, Queen, Ace, and Jack, >! then perhaps a playstyle with a Joker as well. !< And then you fight a turf war
I've been thinking with how each character could easily have their progression in the series be assembled into something like attack, defense, & spell cards, levelling up, etc. In fact I put a comment on the latest free to read episode asking into the void in the hopes uru-chan may read it, asking whether they'd ever considered it. I even have started drawing up stuff for fun.
WARNING THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPHS FROM HERE ON CONTAIN SPOILERS THAT MUST REMAIN FOR CLARITY. If you aren't cool with that skip to next unblocked text
My current prototype is just 4 characters, >! John, Arlo, Meili, and Ventus from you know what chapter, just to see how that works. If it succeeds I'll proto Isen, Remi, Sera and Blyke too, then after that try Terrence and Volcano, Maybe Rei & Kuyo, Zeke and Cecile, Vaughn, Keon, Darren, Kayden, Liam etc. !< Then if those ones all work I'll move into seeing if I can create a new card with an ability that doesn't yet exist in unOrdinary.
>! I've been thinking also that perhaps the idea of people creating their own characters shows more merit, especially if banning Aura Manipulation, because then it's not a matter of who gets John or a member of Ember/Specter, but who comes up with the most creative abilities and attacks. Or you could even do it more D&D style, where a DM of sorts plays with duplicates of everyone's decks + combo cards as John, or plays as a rival set of Royals, or a group of Ember/Specter members, and fights everyone else. They could perhaps even do a type where you use 7 d10's to roll your potential, mastery, and 5 stats randomly, as does your opponent, then you either choose abilities randomly or not and fight as you are. Then you could decide to roll the level of the attack you play and add it to the # of the stat the attack needs, rolled against your opponents dice of one size lower added to their speed, defense, trick, or recovery, then etc, damage is taken, and so on. !<
It just seems like it would be insanely cool. Especially if I could make a card with a contraption on the stat sheet, so that you can physically slide the points along the 5 lines and change your stat Pentagon on the fly without having to swap out cards or the Pentagon. Plus it would look & be badass. You could then have a dial on the card side, a feature Ive most recently seen used in the Unstable Games deckbuilding board game Casting Shadows, to change level from 1-10 and .0-.9. and perhaps for tier as well, then All cards could have holographic eyes, with possibly holo tier sleeves/ swappable card images for increased tiers.
Just wondering if anyone else likes the idea, or has any ideas for some cool/unique/new deckbuilding or card battle game mechanics that could aid making a game like this....
