Was Transformers the first franchise to create the concept of robots combining?

I can’t seem to find a clear answer for it, because the only franchises I know that has combining robots are Transformers and Power Rangers. But we all know Transformers came out first. So was Transformers the first franchise to create the concept of combining robots into bigger robots? Sorry if I’m mistaken
