The movie "the substance' broke me
I saw The substance yesterday and oh boy, it really did a number on me. First of all, in my Movie theater people were laughing a lot, like in the most horrific scenes or the most sad scenes people were laughing wtf, like I kinda get if there were laughing because they were really uncomfortable with what was going on screen but I found it really weird that when I was crying for the character people were laughing.
Now, I found that the base of the movie talks about beauty standards and how women go through hell and back just to keep being young and beautiful, but as a trans woman all the things in the movie just hit harder. -having to inyect yourself every other week just keep your beauty -hating what you see in the mirror and feeling like you can't scape your own skin -feeling like you don't deserve love from anyone just because the way you look -ripping your body apart just to fit in in society -the horrible body dismorphia you feel everytime you look in the mirror -people calling you a monster
This movie touches really sensitive subjects for the trans experience, if you're not in the right headspace right now, please don't watch the movie
