self advocation landed me a bill i cannot afford
someone told me to ask for a full thyroid panel because basic thyroid panels are innacurate and unreliable. so i did. my care team seemed to get snappy with me when i asked for further testing, stating there was no indication for further testing. my doctor said insurance likely wouldn't cover it but no estimate was given and i before i got a chance to respond she sent me "you're fine there's nothing wrong with your thyroid" (this was all done over mychart messages) and then my extra tests came in. i thought i was going to have to go in to get another blood draw. now i have a bill for 112 dollars because "it wasn't medically necessary". i know it doesn't sound like a big bill, but i've been financially struggling for months with no end in sight. my partner won't even go to the doctor for consistent pain because they have a 30 dollar copay just for the appointment. i'm never self-advocating again. if i express concern about something why wouldn't she just order it? just to make sure? why make me pay out of pocket for something i didn't even have to go back in for?
