Large Island in the south

So was playing Ptera with my gf and we decided to go down to the large south island to explore, I know before from videos Ive seen that food would spawn down there, does anyone know if thats changed. Just spent an hour flying around and haven't seen a single turtle, crab, chicken, or anything.
