Working Musician - Things to Claim/Write Off on Taxes Question
Title says it all. These are the things that I have the potential to claim and I wanted to get some insight from you out there if these are things Musicians usually deduct:
Some that I know to deduct:
- Equipment Purchased
- Software needed, including one to track Mileage
- Meals while on the road or trip to/from gig
- Expenses for equipment repairs, uniforms, tolls and parking
Some I have heard about but a little iffy about:
- Mileage to/from Band Practice - practice is not paid but Gigs are
- Mileage to chamber choir practices/concerts - This group is UNPAID for practices and concerts.
- Mileage to a choir for hire - practices/performances are both paid.
- Mileage/expenses to music concerts (free or paid) - Heard you can since it's a way to develop music tastes, see the trend in music, etc. to further my abilities as a musician.
- Hotels - I have heard you can for hotel expense but get lost on the conditions.
- For Equipment purchases - I have been writing off the whole amount. I don't have a lot of large purchases other than my Bass Amp around $800+ last year.
Any other ideas out there, let me know! Thank you in advance for your time! :)
