Where to begin?

I’ve really been wanting to get into synth and ambient music but the barrier to entry feels too high. I want a good catch all starter machine but they’re too pricy for me to take a risk on. I had a lot of fun on my friends Kaosssilator pro (the green one). Any suggestions?
