PROMYS or SSP?
I went to PROMYS last year, but I was thinking about applying to SSP astrophysics this year (since I have been thinking about going into applied math rather than pure math).
I’ve heard great things about SSP, but as I’ve looked through the SSP projects on their website, they all seem very structured and pre-determined? It seems like they already have a set of steps that the group just needs to follow, so there’s not a lot of real investigation or problem solving. The math involved also seems pretty basic and straightforward? Is this really the case?
I had a lot of fun at PROMYS last year, and returning students get to do some pretty cool math research. Is it worth it for me to spend the time to apply to SSP? Thank you! 😊
